Speaking on UFC Tonight yesterday, president Dana White confirmed the news that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is set to make his UFC return.
When asked by Daniel Cormier if the WWE star would be returning to the UFC, White confirmed that Lesnar would indeed be back.
“Yeah, Brock Lesnar’s coming back.” White said. “I don’t know when, but yes he is.”
Lesnar hasn’t appeared in the octagon since UFC 200 where he earned a unanimous decision victory over veteran heavyweight Mark Hunt. Shortly after the event, it was announced that Lesnar had failed both in competition and out of competition drugs tests, with the WWE star being handed a one year suspension and a fine.
Having announced his retirement from MMA in February 2017, Lesnar’s suspension was effectively paused and so will need to be completed before he would be eligible to return to action. The 40-year-old will also need to complete a mandatory six months of drugs testing under USADA rules before being allowed to fight again. With his WWE contract expected to end after his appearance at Wrestlemania 34 this Sunday, it is looking increasingly likely that we will see Lesnar return to the UFC before the year is out.
