Following another day of crashing news surrounding UFC 223, the card is now set, the weigh-ins have been completed and barring any more setbacks we can focus on enjoying what’s left of the event.
This evening the UFC held a press conference to commemorate their 25th year anniversary, and here is the latest news within the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Al Iaquinta will become the champion if he wins
Previous reports had suggested that Al Iaquinta weighed in at 155.2lbs so he missed the championship weight, however, later the commision weighed Iaquinta’s boxer shorts which weighed 0.2 lbs. Dana White confirmed that should he win, Ragin’ Al will be considered the UFC Lightweight champion.
Well I have to applaud the UFC on this decision. It’s the right call. The damn underwear weighed exactly 0.2lbs so Al Iaquinta made the championship weight limit. He 100% should be fighting for the title. This event keeps taking incredible twists and turns in the narrative.

Robert Whittaker vs Yoel Romero confirmed at UFC 225 in Chicago for the middleweight strap
Despite Romero missing weight in his successful interim title fight against Luke Rockhold, Romero has still been granted the title shot many assumed he would get. Whittaker’s next opponent has finally been confirmed and the main event of UFC 225 is set.
Rafael Dos Anjos vs Colby Covington Confirmed at UFC 225 in Chicago for the Interim welterweight championship.
Despite previous reports that this fight would take place in Brazil, the UFC have announced that the fight will actually take place in Chicago at UFC 225. No doubt Covington and the UFC security team will be appreciative of this change in location.
TJ Dillashaw vs Cody Garbrandt rematch confirmed at UFC 227 in Los Angeles for the bantamweight belt.
Now that the talk of a ‘super fight’ between TJ Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson has been dropped, the rematch between Dillashaw and Garbrandt has been confirmed. This is a great fight and I’m sure everyone will enjoy the rematch as much as they enjoyed the first time these two men came face to face.
Brock Lesnar still under UFC contract
Dana White has just confirmed that Brock Lesner still has fights remaining on his UFC contract, and it’s “a possibility” he will fight the winner of Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight title.
Dana White says “it’s a possibility” Brock Lesnar faces the winner of DC-Stipe. He also said Brock is still under contract but needs to reenter the USADA testing pool first.
