The Ultimate Fighter season 28 Heavy Hitters will begin filming next week, and after plenty of speculation, it has been announced that the current UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum will be the head coaches as sports toughest tournament sets to take off once again. Gastelum’s wishes of a title shot have finally come true as coaches are scheduled to fight later this year.
Both Whittaker and Gastelum have reigned victorious in The Ultimate Fighter, so they both know what it takes to dig deep and deliver in such a growling tournament and each of their careers have taken off since the successes of TUF. Whittaker is on a nine-fight win streak with two impressive wins over “The Soldier Of God” Yoel Romero.
Gastelum, on the other hand, has shown vast improvements since moving up to middleweight and has wins over former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jacare Souza, and most recently a knockout victory over former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
While the future of The Ultimate Fighter is in doubt, we can all look forward to the next season as the heavyweights and women’s featherweights prepare to make history, they can only hope to go on to be as successful as their respected head coaches.
