When we last left ‘Sugar’ Sean O’ Malley(10-0-0), he was teasing an upcoming fight announcement on his Instagram page. A day later, the banramweight star appeared on the Ariel Helwani show to confirm he will be appearing at UFC 229 against The Ultimate Fighter Latin America bantamweight Jose ‘Teco’ Quinonez (8-2-0).
Quinonez took a hefty break away from the octagon following his successful appearance at UFC 221 against Teruto ‘Yashubo’ Ishihara (11-5-2). Compared to the noise made by other fighters in his division, Quinonez has been remarkably quiet during his absence. Now that he has been given front-row seats to the Sugar Show, it will be a pleasant return which may bring some publicity towards the 28-year old from Mexico.
One could be led to believe that this is a boost fight for The Montana native. ‘Sugar’ Sean finds himself added to his second main PPV card, supporting a fight the UFC are billing as the biggest fight they’ve ever put together. This means more eyes on him, he is introduced to a unranked opponent and gets the chance to showcase his unique skill set. Either way, he and other combatants are filling up what looks to be one of the most entertaining cards of the year.
