News: Light heavyweights Akop Szostak and John Smith set to meet in London at KSW 45

KSW 45 takes place at The SSE Arena Wembley in London, England on October 6 and it will feature a Polish vs. English clash between two fitness professionals, Akop Szostak (3-2) and John Smith (3-0), in the light heavyweight division.

Akop Szostak is one of the most popular personal trainers in Poland, amassing an Instagram following of almost 300,000. The Warsaw native made his pro MMA debut in 2015 and has been training in the Berkut WCA Fight Team gym, one of the top gyms in Poland and home to the likes of Anzor Azhiev, Damian Janikowski and Mariusz Pudzianowski.

The 30-year-old began his MMA adventure with a 30 second KO before winning his follow up fight via decision against a much more experienced opponent. Back to back losses followed for Szoztak, including one against strongman Tyberiusz Kowalczyk, before taking a break away from the sport. In April this year, he returned with a bang and won via second round TKO.

Excited to make his KSW debut, he will meet a tough challenge in the shape of undefeated Londoner John Smith. With a background in boxing and kickboxing, Smith made his pro MMA debut in November last year with a 16 second KO win. He followed this up with another pair of early first round KO wins this year, all under the UCMMA promotional banner.

Day to day, Smith helps transform lives as a personal trainer and coach in North London at the Preda and Smith Fight Club and now he gets his opportunity to fight on one of the biggest MMA cards to hit his hometown.

The fight joins a stacked card for KSW London that includes a heavyweight title fight between Phil De Fries and Karol Bedorf, a rematch between welterweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and Roberto Soldic, as well as the beginning of a four-man tournament between Michal Materla, Damian Janikowski, Scott Askham, and Marcin Wojcik to crown a new KSW middleweight champion.
