The UFC have officially added a high stakes strawweight battle to an already strong UFC 231 card.
American Top Team’s Nina Ansaroff (9-5-0) will face her biggest challenge yet as she squares off with two time 115lb title challenger Claudia Gadelha (16-3-0) when the promotion rolls in to Toronto later this year.
Ansaroff’s UFC career got off to a rough start with losses to Juliana Lima and Justine Kish in her first two fights. Since then, the 32-year-old has gone on a tear, winning three straight to find herself holding the number eleven spot in the UFC strawweight rankings. Former title challenger Gadelha will certainly be the American Top Team products toughest test to date.
29-year-old Gadelha comes in to Toronto on the back of an extremely close split decision win over former 115lb champion Carla Esparza at UFC 225. Following that win, the Brazilian went on to have knee surgery but is now back to full strength and will be looking to build some momentum with a win over Ansaroff. A fixture at the top end of the UFC strawweight division for many years now, Gadelha is eager to get back into title contention and will be risking her position in the top five when she meets Ansaroff in December.
UFC 231 will take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada on Saturday December 8th and while the UFC are yet to confirm the main event, rumours suggest that the show will be headlined by a featherweight title show down between champion Max Holloway and number one contender Brian Ortega.
