In what can only be described as a shocking turn of events, one of the UFC’S biggest cards of the year is set to be headlined by a flyweight title fight with Valentina Schevchenko taking on Sijara Eubanks for the vacant 125lb belt.
Initially the plan was to have Schevchenko face Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231, however this fight appears to have been abandoned in favour of solving the ongoing problem of UFC 230 needing a main event, much to the disappointment of many fans around the world.
In the co-main event, we see Dustin Poirier take on Nate Diaz. There had been rumours that this would in fact be the main event with a new 165 pound title on the line. Due to this, a number of fans will be extremely disappointed to find out this this will not be the main event for a card which so many had great hopes for. The card still remains great top to bottom, but this is without doubt a very surprising route for the UFC to go down.
Schevchenko was all set to face Nicco Montano only a few weeks ago at UFC 228, however due to health problems Montano was unable to compete. Eubanks meanwhile, is coming off an impressive win over Lauren Murphy.
While both fighters are next in line for the title shot at 125, this is would appear to many to be a mis-match on paper and it wouldn’t be a shock to see The Bullet established as well over a -1200 favourite going into the fight.
