Report: UFC welterweights respond to Ben Askren’s Twitter challenge

Following the news that we are on the brink of an historic ‘trade’ deal which would see UFC flyweight great Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and ONE Championship’s undefeated welterweight king “Funky” Ben Askren switch promotions, Askren has wasted no time at all in calling out half of the UFC’s top 10 welterweights.

Almost 24 hours ago, Askren kicked off proceedings with a fairly generic call to action to the UFC 170lb division. What followed was a day of Twitter based entertainment, the likes of which we haven’t seen for some time.

The always entertaining “Platinum” Mike Perry (12-3-0) was the first to answer the call in his own unique way, explaining that he wasn’t planning on saying anything until after his fight with Donald Cerrone but since “nobody is saying anything” he decided to step up to the plate now.

Up next on undefeated 34-year-old Askren’s Twitter hit list was American Top Team’s number nine ranked welterweight Jorge Masvidal (32-13-0).

After a brief back and forth with Masvidal, Askren moved his cross hairs to former 170lb title challenger Darren Till (17-1-1).

Despite having been absent from Twitter for almost two months, the outspoken Scouser wasted little time in responding to the call out in his own, inimitable style, leading to perhaps the most entertaining exchange of the day (if you don’t read Till’s initial response in his accent you’re doing it wrong).

Among all of the other call outs, Askren twice attempted to engage former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington (14-1-0), without receiving any response.

Who would you like to see welcome Askren to the UFC? Let me know in the comments.
