2321

Main Event: Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson

After 5 long years, finally we finally get the rematch to what was not only fight of the year, but one of the greatest fights of all time.

Jones is coming back after over a year layoff following a failed drug test after his win against Daniel Cormier.

Coming in to this one, Jones is a decent sized favourite, and rightly so, considering he won the first fight. However, not everyone believes he should have.

Jonesseems to show up to the biggest fights and this is certainly one of them. There was much debate as to how hard he actually trained for the first fight but there is no question as to whether he will take this one serious. Both fighters will possess the same skills as before but I believe that Gustafsson has much better striking than before. Unless his takedown defence is significatly worse and can’t stop jones from outgrappling him, I believe Gus has a serious chance of winning this fight.

If Jones is not on his game there could be a serious upset, and im calling it. I see Gustafsson outpointing jones in a razor close split decision.

Prediction: Gustafsson via Decision

cyborg

Co-main Event: Cyborg vs. Nunes

In my opinion Nunes is being completely overlooked in this fight and maybe its justifued – Nunes has power, Cyborg has more. Nunes has speed, Cyborg has more.

However, I strongly believe that Nunes possesses a sizeable advantage  in the grappling department. I have noticed in Cyborgs previous fights that she has has problems when in grappling exchanges. She got dominated early on in the clinch by Holm and she was taken down easily against Kunitskaya.

I honestly believe that Nunes will aim to dominate Cyborg in the grappling ages, tire her out and outpoint her to a reasonably comfortable decision win. I could end up with egg on my face but im willing to put my neck on the line.

Prediction: Nunes via Decision

Michael Chiesa files law suit against Conor McGregor and Barclays Center following UFC 223 bus incident

Despite the ongoing preparations for his monumental UFC 229 title clash with arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, lightweight contender Conor McGregor’s legal troubles away from the Octagon appear to have reared their head once again.

The Dubliner’s criminal case for his involvement in the UFC 223 bus attack in the Barclays Centre at the end of July is now over, but one of the blue corner fighters involved in the incident, Michael Chiesa, has initiated civil legal proceedings against ‘The Notorious’ one.

UFC 223 Down To Bare Bones After Losing Three Fights

After the day’s crazy events its been confirmed that no less than three of the fights from UFC 223 has been cancelled. It’s a sad day for the UFC and the fans of these fighters who had paid money to go and see them, only to have the opportunity snatched from them due to the events that took place in New York today. These are the fights that will not take place, and no replacements will be found due to the lack of time before the event this Saturday night.

Lobov-Caceres

The fight between Artem Lobov and Alex Caceres has been cancelled due to Lobov’s involvement in the attack at The Barclays Centre. Lobov was seen with the “Mcgregor Gang” which ran chaos inside the arena and attacked the bus which had many fighters on board.

Michael Chiesa vs Anthony Pettis is the second fight off the card. Chiesa was cut after the window was put through on the bus he was on. After being taken to the hospital, Chiesa declared he was still eager to fight this Saturday but the New York State Athletic Commision declared him unfit to fight. Chiesa took to social media to declare his interest to still fight “Showtime”, and I’m sure the UFC will oblige under the circumstances.

Ray Borg vs Brandon Moreno is the final fight to be cancelled. Borg was also on board the bus that was attacked and also sustained a head injury. Despite not being cut, Borg was seemingly ok, but later was unable to close his eyes – it’s believed he has shards of glass in them. Borg was soon after pulled from the card leaving Moreno without an opponent. Neither fighter has spoken out on social media as of yet but I expect we will hear from them soon.

Everyone here at MMAMotion wishes all the fighters well and we hope that the fights that were meant to take place are rescheduled.
