The UFC just added an important light heavyweight battle to their maiden trip to Chile.
Former light heavyweight title challenger Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir (15-2-0) will square off with MMA legend and future UFC hall of famer, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (25-10-0) at UFC Fight Night 127.
Oezdemir hasn’t fought since being stopped by Daniel Cormier two minutes into the second round of their title fight at UFC 220. A win over former champion Shogun will help the 28-year-old Swiss knockout artist move on from the disappointing outcome against Cormier which snapped his five fight win streak and put a temporary hold on his title aspirations.
Brazilian veteran Shogun’s last outing was more than a year ago at UFC Fight Night 106 where he picked up a third round TKO victory over Gian Villante. The victory last March moved Shogun’s win streak to three fights. A decisive victory over Oezdemir would catapult the 36-year-old up the rankings and position him for one final push to regain the light heavyweight championship he lost to Jon Jones at UFC 128.
