The UFC are working to add another of their young Australian stars to the card for their upcoming visit to Adelaide, with light heavyweight prospect Tyson Pedro (7-2-0) set to face former 205lb champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (25-11-0).
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to report that the UFC were working on putting the two light heavyweights together in Adelaide. MMAJunkie later confirmed the report via a pair of anonymous sources.
After having a three fight win streak snapped by a dramatic first round TKO loss to Anthony Smith at UFC Hamburg earlier this year, number eleven ranked ‘Shogun’ appears to be on course to take his second fight in year for the first time since 2013.
27-year-old Pedro arrives in Adelaide following a disappointing first round submission defeat to Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Singapore to give him his second loss in his last three outings. Now ranked at number fifteen in the UFC light heavyweight division, Pedro will be hoping to get back on track against the former champion in front of his home crowd.
UFC Adelaide takes place on December 1st at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia and will be headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Junior Dos Santos and local favourite Tai Tuivasa.
